He is an Icelandic historian and chair of the Center for Microhistorical Research at Reykjavík Academy in Iceland. In his research he focuses on popular culture and its apparence in autobiographical writing and other personal sources. He is also interested in methodological problems:  memory, ideology, and historical inquiry in modern scholarship.
