Daniel Oviedo Silva is a PhD student at the Unviersity of Nottingham. His PhD thesis explores social conflict, intra-community violence and accusatory practices before, during and after the Spanish Civil War in Madrid. It focuses on concierges and their relationship with public order from the late nineteenth century to the nineteen forties. His research relies on a wide range of sources, including court, police and administrative records, memoirs and the press to address some of the most heated debates around political violence in Spain's traumatic past and European dictatorships. His previous work dealt with punitive institutions in post-war Madrid (MA dissertation) and non-political prisoners' movements in the Spanish Transition (degree dissertation).
