Nils Olav Østrem is Professor of History at Department of Education and Sports Science, University of Stavanger, Norway. He earned his Ph.D. at University of Tromsø, Norway, in 2002. His main fields of interest are migration, local, social and cultural history. He has written books and articles connected to these fields and his recent books includes Norsk utvandringshistorie (Norwegian Emigration History) (2014), Den store utferda (The Huge Exodus) (2015) and Hatteland. Handel og elektronikk i 150 år (Hatteland. Trade and Electronics for 150 Years) (2015).
